Reduce Recycling, and a fun fact on beer bottles

We talk a lot about reducing food waste at foodservice operations.  Reducing the amount of foodwaste put into both the waste stream and recycling stream (composting) is extremely important.  Reduction is important for other recycled items, just as reduction is important for foodwaste.  Reduce-Reuse-Recycle…

Do you have a lot of recycling every week?  Here is a great website to help you reduce the amount of recycling and maybe earn some cash:  http://www.terracycle.net/.

The company, Terracycle takes different items like empty juice pouches, Clif Bar wrappers, soda bottles and turns them into fun, usable products like backpacks, kites and gift wrap bows.  This site is great for larger foodservice operations that already have a recycling program in place.  Check out the website to see if any of your recyclables can be used.  You might be able reduce the amount of trash you send to be recycled.  Reduce-Reuse-Recycle…

Fun Fact: You are a responsible operator and recycle your beer bottles.  But what if your customers enjoy adding a wedge of lime to the bottle.  Does that mean you can’t recycle it?  Does the lime ‘contaminate’ the glass recycling process?

Here’s the answer from our friends at Recyclebankhttp://www.recyclebank.com/recycling/recycling-101/396
