Compass Group Australia cuts food waste 34% with Leanpath

CompassSustainabilityReport2024

Compass Group Australia has cut its total food waste by 34% since 2022 using Leanpath. The results were reported in Compass Group’s 2024 Sustainability Report.

The report highlights: “Over the last three years, our Australian business has continued to deploy Leanpath’s industry leading technology into over 200 sites across the country. By using the system, they have been able to track the total weight of food items repurposed. This year, a reported 45,000kg of food that would have otherwise been wasted, has been utilised.”

Compass Group, the largest foodservice contract management company in the world, has set a goal to cut its food waste in half by 2030, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 12.3. Food waste tracking is central to that effort.

“We work hard to reduce food waste throughout our entire value chain,” says Compass Group CEO Dominic Blakemore. “The acquisition of data is fundamental to better decision making. Our chefs employ food waste tracking tools to identify opportunities to further reduce waste and our carbon footprint.”

In 2023, Compass Group also linked food waste key performance indicators to executive director and senior manager annual bonus plans.

“Through innovation, accountability, and teamwork,” the report states, “we are committed to eliminating food waste and creating a more sustainable global food system.”
